THE FUTURE

WHY ARE POSTERIOR COMPOSITES
STILL SO STRESSFUL?
You Told Us
“Posterior composites are unpredictable”
“Sensitivity is my biggest issue”
“Layering takes too long”
“Deep cavities are stressful”
FEWER STEPS, FEWER FAILURES
Traditional composite placement can require up to 7 steps and 90–120 seconds. Stela Primer does it in two steps and 15 seconds.
Less time in each appointment. More consistency across every restoration.

Powered by an innovative hydroperoxide-based initiation system, free of tertiary amine – Stela delivers fast-setting characteristics,
excellent colour stability and a high conversion rate. Combined with SDI’s proprietary ionglass™ fillers and BPA-free resin
monomers, every restoration cures rapidly and reliably.
Fewer steps means fewer opportunities for errors and longer lasting restorations.
Reduce your chair-time and eliminate potential technique sensitivity with the simplified Stela technique.

GAP-FREE INTERFACE
Light-cured composites can shrink during polymerisation, creating stress and microgaps that lead to sensitivity and failure.
Stela changes the curing dynamic – polymerising from the cavity walls inward, not from the top down. The result? A gap-free seal with reduced stress – even in deep or high C-Factor cavities.
An external study demonstrated Stela’s high bond strength to dentine. Micrograph imagery showed interfaces without defects or gaps. Stela “…exhibited better interfacial adaptation and greater bonding performance compared to universal and bulk-fill composites.”
This conofocal micrograph shows a gap-free Stela-dentine interface, using the self etch Stela Primer. Note the penetration depth of Stela Primer (yellow) within the dentine tubules. Pre-test failure rate 0%.

CONTROLLED PLACEMENT
Designed for control when it matters most, Stela offers two handling options for precise, reliable placement to suit every clinical scenario.
- Stela Capsule – single dose, more viscous paste for high-strength placement.
- Stela Automix Syringe – rotating, bendable metal tips for precise access – even in deep or hard-to-reach cavities.
Both self-cure in just 4 minutes.
Optimised viscosity delivers smooth flow with enough body for excellent adaptation.

THE STRONGER RESTORATIVE
A restorative material should be evaluated by how effectively its compressive and flexural strengths work together, enabling it to withstand occlusal pressure while minimising the risk of fracture during function. With a compressive strength of 331 MPa and a flexural strength of 143, Stela delivers an exceptional balance of both properties, offering performance that exceeds many leading composite materials.
RESTORATION STRENGTH [MPa]
External studies^ confirm the bond strength of Stela primer exceeds Scotchbond™ Universal* in both standard and bulk fill applications. Both Stela Primer and Stela composite contain the MDP monomer, ensuring a strong chemical bond, free of gaps, with better sealing for durability and no sensitivity.

HOW DOES STELA COMPARE?
A smarter alternative to traditional methods, Stela is designed to overcome the limitations of conventional composites as well as provide a viable alternative to amalgam.

With the launch of SDI’S STELA, I believe we finally have a credible alternative
that replaces amalgam and serves as an all-rounder in restorative dentistry.

WHERE STELA EXCELS
CLINICALLY
Ideal for the cases where traditional composites are challenging, Stela can be used on direct classes I, II, III and V cavities, base or liner, core build-ups and and sealing endodontic access cavities.

HIGH C-FACTOR CAVITIES
Class I, deep posterior restorations, endodontic access where shrinkage
stress and gap formation are
most critical.

DEEP CLASS II RESTORATIONS
MODs and deep boxes, distal surfaces of molars where depth of cure and adaptation are harder to control.

CORE BUILD-UPS
Strength, reliability, and
predictable bonding
are essential.

LIMITED LIGHT ACCESS CASE
Where light-cure composites are less predictable.
Across all of these cases, Stela removes the variables that make posterior composites unpredictable. No light dependency. No layering. No compromises on depth of cure. Just a reliable, two-step process that delivers the same outcome whether restoring a Class I or building a core.
ENDONTIC SUCCESS DOESN’T
STOP AT OBTURATION
A reliable coronal seal is critical to long-term endodontic success – yet restoring endodontically treated teeth can be time-consuming and technique-sensitive, particularly in deep or complex cases.
Stela offers a different approach. Designed to simplify deep post-endo restorations while supporting reliable adaptation and seal integrity – without complex layering protocols.
With a rapid 4-minute self-cure and simplified workflow, Stela helps clinicians restore complex endodontic cases efficiently and confidently.
WHY STELA WORKS FOR ENDODONTIC CASES
– Supports reliable sealing in deep restorations
– Simplifies difficult posterior access cases
– Reduces the need for complex layering techniques
– Reduced technique sensitivity
– Designed for efficient same-visit workflows

REAL CASES. REAL RESULTS.

A 65-year-old patient presented with a failing amalgam restoration on the lower right second premolar. The patient was anxious about treatment, particularly regarding isolation, time, and cost. Following assessment, the amalgam was removed and the tooth restored using STELA self-cure composite in a single visit, without the need for bonding. The material adapted well, enabling efficient handling and reduced chair time.
“Stela is easy to use, reduces chair time and is a potentially viable alternative to amalgam.”
– Dr Hussein S Patanwala

A 17-year-old patient presented for a routine examination, where a subtle colour change was observed on the upper left premolar. Radiographic assessment confirmed the presence of a cavity, and due to the tooth’s position in the smile line, a tooth-coloured restoration was selected over amalgam.
The restoration was completed using STELA self-cure composite, applied in a simplified two-step process involving primer and composite placement. The material allowed efficient handling and placement in a single increment, supporting a streamlined workflow. The procedure was completed efficiently, with good aesthetic integration and functional outcome.
“Stela simplified the process and delivered a seamless result, all in the patient’s first filling.”
– Dr Kiran Shankla
